The Wellness and counseling program at the Lower School works in close partnership with homeroom teachers, specialists, administrators, staff and parents to provide children with an environment that affords them opportunities to develop their potential and feel a sense of belonging within their school community. The developmentally appropriate student-centered environment of the Lower School allows the counseling program to be involved and integrated with a wide range of educational activities. The commitment by faculty and staff to promote each child’s intellectual and social-emotional development is the cornerstone of the counseling program. As the program has evolved, there are five main components that have been developed and implemented. These include the following:
- Teaching component
- Short-term counseling component
- Assessment component
- Consultation component
- Parent education component
The counseling program at the Lower School recognizes the unique nature of children and the importance of supporting them as they acquire knowledge, develop interpersonal skills, and learn about themselves.
